This session will walk participants through the Twelve C’s of Exceptional Leaders, utilizing contemporary movie clips and discussion. During the years that Rich spent as a property manager, the habits he learned and processes to which he became addicted have enabled him to thrive. 209: Bed Bugs 101: Biology, Behavior, Treatment and Risk Assessment (Period 1 Only)

As bed bugs continue their march across the U.S., being prepared and knowing how to handle an infestation has never been more important. The last thing anybody wants to see is their apartments, homes or barracks being strewn across the headlines of a newspaper because they didn’t handle an infestation properly. In addition, legal risks are dramatically escalating as more and more bed bug related lawsuits are arising every week. In this session, you will learn:



The risk bed bugs pose to military housing and review the basics about bed bugs and their comeback.



Why bed bugs are being found in public forums (movie theaters, retail stores, etc...) and what you can do to prevent bed bugs from coming into your facilities.

211: The Next Phase of Privatization – Lodging

The Next Phase of Privatization – Lodging, will focus on a case study that highlights the success of the Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) program. PAL was the first public-private partnership with the Department of Defense that focused on lodging. This session will demonstrate the lessons learned and how PAL continues to pave the way for additional public-private partnerships within the Department of Defense. It will highlight how even during difficult financial times, the partnership between the Department of the Army and Lend Lease was successful in securing the financing it needed to close the multi-million dollar project, which allows for better resources for military members and all government travelers. In this session, you will learn:









More about the success of military privatization projects throughout the U.S. and how public-private partnerships, such as the Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) program, have allowed the U.S. military to address and meet needs, while ensuring the long-term sustainment of homes, communities, hotels, and other privatized facilities over 50-years. 213: Bed Bugs 102: Creating Bed Bug Response Plans and Advanced Treatment Methods

Looking for more advanced information on bed bugs and how to take that information and begin to develop a response plan? Then this is the session for you. Fair Housing and Beyond was developed in partnership with MHLI, IREM and NAAEI subject matter experts in Fair Housing for IREM Members, NAA Members and others in the housing management industry. Management company executives, property managers, site managers, leasing professionals, maintenance technicians, office administration staff and vendors must comply with Fair Housing law and would benefit from attending this seminar. Participants will explore the equal opportunity mandate critical to professional residential property management in depth, as well as leasing, property operations and customer service areas taking into consideration the multicultural reality of residential communities today. The Basics of Developing a Performance-Based Performance Work Statement

You have decided to contract out a function or entire operation. How do I get the best possible performance from a contracted provider? The answer is to start with a performance-based performance work statement (PWS). This session will cover the basics of developing a performance-based PWS so that you can identify everything that you want done but allow the provider to use innovation and best business practices to deliver cost savings with maximum quality. You will be introduced to methods of determining what you must have accomplished through Tree Analysis, Time/Task Analysis and Workload Analysis to assist in the development of a performance-based PWS that will fit your requirements and get you the best possible results from your contracts. In this session, you will learn:

Come dig deeper into a Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) Pro Forma and learn about the structure and design of a development spreadsheet. Emphasis will be placed on how to evaluate, validate and understand private sector housing Pro Formas and the financial impact they have on military projects. In this session, you will learn:


Key features, menus and complex formulas and functions.


The necessity of a good spreadsheet design. Learn a five step process to validate an Excel Spreadsheet.

Math based “cheat sheets” to test for spreadsheet errors.





The essentials of evaluating project requests and their financial implications to housing projects. This evaluation includes looking at the mission and identifying constraints and limitations of the proposed request and focusing on the short- and long-term financial impact.
