PHMA Scholarship Program

The Professional Housing Management Association is an organization of federal and private sector employees dedicated to promoting professionalism in all phases of housing management within the Department of Defense. The Association was established in 1973 and is the only international association devoted to the enhancement of housing services to military members. Approximately 2,500 military and civilian Department of Defense employees and private sector civilians make up the international membership.

Applicants will be evaluated on academic performance, academic and professional goals, essay and other comments relative to the selection process.

ELIGIBILITY

The Association offers academic scholarships of up to $3,000 to PHMA members in good standing and their immediate family members. An applicant must be one of the following:
Prospective college freshman
Full time college student in good academic standing for at least one year
Graduate student in good academic standing taking a full course load

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the academic advisor certifying to the student’s scholastic ability, verifying test scores, character and worthiness to receive this scholarship to merit his or her education.

TRANSCRIPTS

The most current transcript and SAT/ACT or other generally accepted testing services scores must be sent. Exceptions for missing test scores will be made on a case-by-case basis.

ESSAY

This essay must be submitted in typed form and double-spaced of no more than two (2) pages, addressing the topics below:
Academic Performance
Academic and Professional Goals
Applicant’s statement of consideration for this scholarship
Other comments to assist in the selection process

Essays must be the original work of the applicant and may not have been submitted with previous PHMA Scholarship applications. Plagiarism in any form as well as the use of previously submitted essays will result in disqualification.

DIGITAL PHOTOS

All applications must provide a recent Hi-Resolution Photograph. Please send digital photos by e-mail to smkeating@earthlink.net. If you are unsure what type of digital photography is needed, please see HOW TO SUBMIT PHOTOS.

APPLICATIONS

All applications and other required materials must be received by 16 July, in order to be considered for that calendar year. All information on the application must be accurate and complete. Completed applications must be returned to:

Applicants must complete the attached application form, attach support documents
as requested and obtain the necessary certifications as to the accuracy of the information provided. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Winners will be notified by 1 September.
